Smut Capital of America

I had tried to get Michael Stabile to come and speak at my SF cultural history class many years ago, but we were never able to work something out. Since then, he has finished his documentary (sadly, it is only 15 minutes) and it is now on Vimeo. This is pretty great!!!

“Smut Capital of America is the title of Michael Stabile‚Äôs in-progress documentary which chronicles San Francisco’s reign as the center of porn production in the U.S. during the early 70s. In 1969, San Francisco became the first city in the U.S. to effectively legalize pornography, hugely boosting our reputation as a boomtown for sex, and eventually opening up the floodgates to the rest of the country.” (taken from YBCA’s program)
